Abstract
434,338. Electrolytic production of beryllium. DEUTSCHE GOLD-UND SILBER-SCHEIDEANSTALT VORM. ROESSLER, 7, Weissfrauenstrasse, and JAEGER, G., 25 Taunusstrasse, both in Frankfort-on-Main, Germany. March 11, 1935, No. 7595. [Class 41] Beryllium is obtained by electrolysis of a fused mixture of beryllium chloride and alkali metal chloride containing at least 30 per cent and not more than about 60 per cent of beryllium chloride at a temperature not exceeding 400‹ C. Preferable limits are 40-60 per cent of beryllium chloride, and a working temperature of 370-400‹ C. A cathode of nickel and an anode consisting of strips of tungsten may be employed.
