Abstract

299,689. Wade, H., (Aluminium-Industrie Akt.-Ges.). Oct. 25, 1927. Divided on 280,881, under which a Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Nov. 22, 1927. Aluminium, refining.-The electrolyte consists of a mixture of a halide salt of aluminium and a halide salt of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal or both compounded to be molten at the working temperature at which the anode and cathode remain solid ; small quantities, e.g. 0.1-0.5 per cent, of manganese, lead, cadmium or nickel or their compounds are added to the bath. The additional substance may be added directly to the bath as an oxide or salt and may be introduced by alloying the metal with the anode metal, or by the use of auxiliary anodes of the desired metal connected to a suitable potential. Specification 280,881 is referred to.
