Abstract

433,544. Drying-machines for paper. MILNE, S., 38, Lauder Road, Edinburgh. Feb. 15, 1934, No. 4966. [Class 96] The felts e of a paper-making machine are dried by steam-heated cylinders c, d to a low moisture content, and raised to a higher temperature than that of the paper web passing about drying-cylinders a<1>, a<2>. At least 50 per cent of the heat supplied to the paper may be received from the felts e. In arrangements of cylinders alternative to that shown, there may be two rows c above, and two rows d below the paper-drying cylinders a<1>, a<2>, or the felts may pass over 3 paper-drying cylinders and then over 3 felt-drying cylinders; or the cylinders could be arranged in vertical rows. The cylinders c, d may be driven from the cylinders a<1>, a<2> by chains &c.
