Abstract
432,084. Planimeters. RABE, K., 46a, Hauptmannsreute, Stuttgart, and ROSENBERGER, A., 22, Zerrenerstrasse, Pforzheim, both in Germany. Jan. 29, 1935, No. 2985. Convention date, Feb. 15, 1934. [Class 106 (i)] A polar planimeter is mounted on one of the guiding arms of the drawing head of a known form of parallelogram drawing appliance so as to enable the calculation of areas to be performed without removing the drawing to be measured from the drawing board. The drawing appliance as shown in Fig. 1 consists of parallel guiding arms 1, 1<1>, 2, 2<1> connected by a ring 4 and carrying a drawing head 5 with a set square 6 rotatable about the pivot M. The planimeter as shown in Figs. 2, and 3 comprises a running wheel 12 co-operating with a vernier disc 15 and driving through a worm gearing 13 a counting disc 14. The spindle 11 of the wheel 12 is mounted in bearings at the ends of arms 8 extending from a sleeve 7 adjustably mounted on the guiding arm 2 of the drawing appliance. The planimeter is longitudinally displaceable along the arm to maintain it on the drawing surface ; the sleeve is held in adjusted position by a spring controlled knob 19 co-operating with a corresponding indent 18 in the arm. When the planimeter is not in use the sleeve is rotated to raise the running wheel 12. The planimeter may be supported on the two guiding arms 2, 21, but such support must be pivoted so as not to interfere with the parallel guiding.
