Jan. 5,1934, No. 449. [Class 40 (v)] The relative response of a receiver to high audio-frequencies is decreased automatically as the carrier strength decreases by varying the input impedance of a valve, said impedance being part of the main transmission path of the signals preceding the final demodulator. As shown the input circuit 15 of a high frequency amplifying valve 5 has the input impedance of a valve 6 connected thereacross. The valve 6 has a load circuit 9 comprising an inductance 10 shunted by a resistance 11 and its input impedance is varied by varying its grid potential, the grid lead 8 being connected to a source of A.V.C. potential which also controls the potential of the grid of valve 5 for gain regulation. As the signal strength rises the input impedance of the valve 6 rises making the circuit 15 more selective and hence reducing the high-note response. The functions of the two valves 5 and 6 may be performed by a single valve.
