Abstract

534,457. Valve circuits for wireless reception. THORNTON, A. A. (Philco Radio & Television Corporation). June 8, 1939, No. 16803. [Class 40 (v)] In a direct coupled detector-amplifier circuit particularly for television receivers, the maximum amplitude of the detected signals is made approximately equal to the cut-off bias of the first L.F. amplifier so as to reduce the effect of noise above this amplitude. The intermediate frequency input, subject to A.G.C., is applied between earth and the cathode of a diode V<SP>1</SP> while the load comprising condenser 4, resistance 5 and a small reactance 17 is connected between earth and the 'anode. The detected output is applied directly through a peaking coil 18 to the grid of a L.F. amplifier V<SP>2</SP> having a sharp cut-off, which is adjusted to equal the controlled maximum input, by means of a bias battery 13. Synchronizing signals are taken from screen grid of V2 in the manner described in Specification 530,319.
