Abstract

429,612. Dispensing liquids and gases. FRANCIS, E. M., 36, Heathcote Grove, Chingford, Essex. Dec. 4, 1933, No. 34030. [Classes 8 (i) and 102 (ii)] In apparatus for dispensing gases or liquids, of the type in which fluid is expelled from a chamber a, Fig. 4, by distending a bladder d by means of an air pump f, fluid is drawn into the chamber a by releasing the pressure in the bladder by means of a valve e. The fluid to be dispensed may be drawn into the chamber a, or into a separate container l. In the former case the bladder may be shielded from the fluid by means of a partition with a connecting passage. As shown two jars a l are clamped between a base o and a cover n by means of bolts p. The cover carries the pump f, the air pipe b and the fluid discharge pipe c, and is formed with a passage m connecting the vessels a, l. Fig. 6 shows apparatus for transferring liquid from a bulk container to an accumulator cell w. A stopper x, inserted in the cell, carries a pipe y to the bulk container and a pipe m to a chamber a. The latter contains a diaphragm d\ which may be elastic, or acted on by springs. The diaphragm is expanded by air from a pump f to expel air from the cell w. The pressure behind the diaphragm is then released by means of a valve e, whereupon liquid is drawn into the cell w from the bulk container. The apparatus shown in Fig. 4 may also be used for transferring liquid from a bulk container by the employment of a Y-fitting provided with stop cocks.
