429,488. Roller-and-breast mills. LEHMANN, F. B., (trading as LEHMANN, J. M., [Firm of]), 108, Freiberger Strasse, Dresden, Germany. Dec. 7, 1934, No. 35163. Convention date, Jan. 2. [Class 59] A two-roller mill for the fine grinding of paints &c., comprises two smooth grinding rollers, a rubbing bar common to both rollers and provided with two rubbing surfaces and a scraper engaging one or each roller. As shown the breast 7 is acted on by a single pressure 8, variable in amount and direction, or by two pressures at right angles to one another, whereby the pressure of the grinding bar on the rolls 1, 2 may be of different intensity. The material in the hopper 3 passes through the nip of the rolls 1, 2 and then between the breast surface 9 and roll 1 and is removed by a scraper 5. The coarse material is diverted by the breast between the breast surface 10 and roll 2 and is carried on the surface on the roll 2 back to the hopper 3 for regrinding. In a modification the breast acts with equal pressure on the rolls and the ground material is removed from each roll by a scraper. The rollers may be driven at the same or different speeds.
