Abstract
429,306. Fire-extinguishers. JONES, L. M., 69, Peckham Grove, London. March 5, 1934, No. 6958. [Class 47 (ii)] An extincteur of the kind comprising inner and outer containers for reaction liquids and having valve means for sealing the containers from each other and from the atmosphere, for example such as is described in Specification 264,087, [Class 47 (ii)], includes means for preventing reclosing of the valve means, after use, until the extincteur is dismantled for recharging. As shown, the inner container 5 normally is sealed by a valve 8, and the discharge passage 10 of the extincteur is closed by the valve stem 9. A spring-pressed plunger 16 is mounted in the skirt 11 of the valve 8 for co-operation with rack teeth 18 formed on the extension 6 of the container 5. When the stem 9 is raised against the spring 14, the valve 8 is opened and the reduced part 12 of the stem registers with the passage 10. The plunger 16 engages a tooth 18 to prevent reclosing of the valve. Rotation of the stem 9 is prevented by a pin-and-slot 19, 20. In a modification, the valve stem is formed with an inward extension having teeth of truncatedconical form for engagement with a plunger or a spring mounted in the neck of the container 5. In another modification, the teeth are formed on the stem above the valve 8.
