Abstract

525,712. Closures for containers. EDISON, Inc., T. A. Feb. 27, 1939, No. 6388. Convention date, Nov. 23, 1938. [Class 125 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] Relates to containers for batteries &c. in which the container is connected to its closure member in liquid-tight relation. A container 15, suitable for use with a battery, is closed at its lower end and is, either entirely or at its upper end only, made of soft rubber. Around the outside of the upper edge is a band - like member 40 having inwardly curved edges 44, 45, projecting to such an extent that their inner measurements are approximately the same as, or slightly greater than, the external measurements of flanges 41 on the' lid 16 of the container. When the lid is pressed downwards to seal the container the soft rubber of the latter is displaced between the lid and band member to make a fluid tight seal, while the upper projection 45 retains the lid in position. With this form of sealing excessive pressure within the container is able to force the lid off to prevent damage. The container is carried within an outer metal casing.
