Abstract

425,319. Serpentine - tube heat - exchangers. LIVSEY, H., Economiser Works, CalderVale Road, Wakefield, Yorkshire. Sept. 14, 1933, No. 25478. [Class 64 (iii)] A heat-exchanger for heating feedwater by waste flue gases comprises a fan with a series of horizontal tubes 12 arranged between the fan blades 11<a> and an outer casing 1, the water passing in a zig-zag manner through the tubes. The gas may be drawn through openings 8 along the fan shaft 10 and expelled through an opening in the casing 1, or is drawn in from an opening 2 in the casing and expelled through a duct surrounding the fan shaft ; in the latter form an inner wall 15 almost wholly surrounds the fan. Water enters at lower headers 12b into the gilled tubes 12 connected in zig-zag manner by bends 12<a>. The fan in Fig. 2 has a central disc 11 on the shaft carrying blades 11<a>, air drawn in through openings 8 being led to the tubes by cross plates 9. According to the Provisional Specification, air may be passed through the tubes.
