Abstract
417,770. Tipping-vehicles. BOYS, S. J., Oxford Street Works, Pleck, Walsall, Staffordshire. April 13, 1933, No. 11190/34. Divided out of 413,826. [Classes 108 (i) and 108 (ii).] In tipping vehicles the vehicle comprises a traction frame, a body hinged thereto, locking means to prevent tipping during running, a pair of parallel axles for the body and traction frame and suspension means permitting the body to be tipped when the locking means is released. The body 3 is pivoted to the underframe 1 at 5 and the vehicle is supported on road wheels 6, 8 carried by springs 10, 11, the remote ends of which are shackled to the frame 1 and body 3 at 12, 13 respectively, while the adjacent ends of the springs are linked to a lever 16 pivoted at 17 to a bracket 15 carried by the frame 1. Any tipping means are provided and during tipping the lever 16 inclines allowing the wheel 8 to approach the wheel 6. During normal running the arrangement of the lever and springs tends to equalize the load on the axles.
