Abstract
417,119. Stuffing-box substitutes. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(Voith, W., Voith, H., and Voith, H. (trading as Voith, J. M. [Firm of]) ; Heidenheim, Wurtemberg, Germany.) Feb. 23, 1933, No. 5607. [Class 122 (v).] In a steam inlet and outlet device for drying cylinders &c. a packing ring B having a spherical and a flat face is interposed between an inturned flange c<1> on the casing and a collar a<4> on the cylinder, whereby universal movement is possible between the casing and cylinder. A second packing D is provided between a flange on the inlet pipe c<2> and the casing. In a modification, Fig. 2, the packing D is supported between a member E, carried by a flexible diaphragm G, and a ring a<3> on the cylinder. Ring E is pressed axially by a spring F<1>. Steam collecting in the condensate outlet is withdrawn by the ejector action of the main steam through a pipe H controlled by a valve H<1>.
