Abstract

415,183. Discharge lamps. SCHALLREUTER, W. L. W., 73, Cambridge Terrace, Hyde Park, London. March 23, 1933, No. 8858. [Class 39 (i).] A system for supplying lamps comprises a transformer having its secondary in a number of sections connected together and one or more condensers in series with the tube or tubes and -having one terminal earthed. In one form a transformer secondary is split and a condenser having one plate earthed is inserted in the centre of the secondary in series. The output terminals of the secondary supply a tube. As shown, the secondary 2 is split and each half feeds a tube 1. Condensers 3, having one plate earthed at 4 are arranged in series with the tubes. In another modification, one of the tubes 1 is replaced by two smaller tubes, each having a condenser in series and connected in parallel across one half of the secondary winding. In a further modification, the secondary windings of a 3-phase transformer feed tubes 1 having condensers in series with them. One plate of each condenser is connected to the neutral point of the transformer, which is earthed.
