Abstract

497,639. Supply systems for discharge lamps. BERLINER, H. R. March 19, 1937, No. 8166. [Class 38 (iv)] Two metal vapour discharge lamps giving a combined effect closely resembling daylight, are associated by a transformer 21 in a circuit in which a relaxation oscillation generator supplies the main lamp 24 which may be a mercury vapour lamp. This lamp 24 is supplied from an A.C. or D.C. source through an adjustable series resistance or reactance 26, a condenser 25 being arranged in parallel with the lamp. The additional lamp 22, which may be a red neon lamp, is in series with the secondary of the transformer, the primary being arranged in the charge or discharge circuit of the condenser 26. The additional lamp may be arranged in the outer part of the main lamp as shown in dotted lines. In a modification, a second pair of electrodes connected to the secondary of the transformers is arranged in the main lamp. Specification 403,365, [Group XXXVIII], is referred to.
