Abstract

414,512. Valves. SANTON, Ltd., and SANDERS, H. C., Somerton Works, Newport, Monmouthshire. July 18, 1933, No. 20204. [Class 135.] Cold water from a supply pipe 7, hot water from a tank 5, heated, for example, by an electric immersion heater as described in Specification 402,146, [Group XI], or a mixture of hot and cold water is supplied to an outlet 6, means being provided for preventing the creation of a part-vacuum in the pipe and thus the reflux of water from the tank to the pipe. A rotatable cylindrical valve member 11 has a flattened face 12 and coacts with a cut-away end 8 of, and a slot 9 in, the pipe 7. In the position shown, cold water flows through the slot 9 and within a hood 13 to the bottom of the tank, hot water being thus displaced to the outlet 6 around the top of the hood. When the valve is turned through 180‹, the slot 9 is closed and the end 8 uncovered, so that cold water flows direct to the outlet. In intermediate positions, hot and cold water are mixed. The valve member 11 fits the pipe 7 loosely, so that air can enter the pipe from the outlet 6 and prevent the creation of a part-vacuum.
