408,534. Electric incandescent lamp bulbs. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.- (Assignees of Pipkin, M.; 3815, Parkdale Avenue, Cleveland Heights, Ohio, U.S.A.). Oct. 13, 1933, No. 28355. Convention date, Oct. 14, 1932. Drawings to Specification. [Class 39 (ii).] An electric incandescent lamp bulb transparent to ultra-violet rays is partly coated with a finely divided glass transparent to ultraviolet rays but opaque to visible rays, which is held on the bulb by a fused material transparent both to ultra-violet and to visible rays. A diffusing coating is thus obtained which is transparent to ultra-violet rays. In the example given the finely divided glass is a purple variety of that commercially known under the Registered Trade Mark " Corex " and comprises phosphoric acid (68 per cent), lime (27 per cent), boric oxide (5 per cent) and cobalt oxide to colour. This is held on the bulb by a borosilicate glass comprising silica (68.5 per cent), boric oxide (23 per cent), sodium oxide (6.5 per cent) and alumina (2 per cent). The glasses are finely powdered and mixed with alcohol in the proportion of 3 parts of " Corex " to 2 parts of borosilicate glass. The bulb of the lamp is dipped in the mixture and fired. The borosilicate glass may be replaced by a glassy material such as sodium borate.
