391,144. Gaseous mixtures; gas producers. POWER-GAS CORPORATION, Ltd., RAMBUSH, N. E., and GRISENTHWAITE, A. T., Parkfield Works, Stocktonon-Tees. Oct. 17, 1931, No. 28887. [Classes 55 (i) and 55 (ii).] A gaseous fuel for use in heating retorts, or for distribution, is obtained by mixing with distillation gas a poor gas containing a larger proportion of carbon monoxide to hydrogen than water gas, and of lower calorific value. The poor gas may be obtained by using the " blow " gases produced towards the end of the blow period in a water-gas generator, or by adding air to the steam during the steaming period, or by adding steam to the air during the part of the blow when the air is supplied at a relatively low rate. Water gas may also be added to the gaseous mixture. A large main may be used for the blow proper, and a smaller one for the producer gas blow. More than one water-gas unit may be employed to obtain a constant supply of the poor gas necessary. A gas producer suitable for use in the process is described in Specification 353,522.
