Abstract
390,583. Sealing leading-in wires into vitreous envelopes. JENAER GLASWERK SCHOTT & GEN., Otto-Schott- Strasse, Jena, Germany. Jan. 6, 1932, No. 372. Convention date, Jan. 8, 1931. [Class 39 (ii).] In a gastight seal of the kind wherein a current conductor is sealed into a quartz vessel a provided with a bored extension c communicating with an enlargement d filled with mercury and having a bored extension or stem e, with a single conductor leading straight through the two bores, or a separate conductor in each bore terminating within the mercury chamber, the conductor b<1> embedded as tightly as possible within the bored extension c is of smaller diameter than the conductor b2 which fits within the bore of the extension e with sufficient clearance to allow mercury to be introduced under pressure. The conductors b<1>, b<2> may be separate members or may be welded together within the mercury chamber.
