[Class 74 (ii).] A device is provided additional to the yarn feeding and plating mechanism of a rib machine of the superposed cylinder type whereby yarns after introduction to and engagement by the needles can be moved to a position for more favourable engagement by reverse plating sinkers, needles, &c. A pivoted finger 10 extending radially from the feeder carrying block 12 is swung away from the yarn guides 1, 3 during a yarn change by connections 14 .. 17 and is almost immediately released and returned to operative position. The lever 17 is attached to the pivot pin 21 of a detent 44 which holds the cam 22 actuating the guides 1, 3 from rotation between yarn changes. The finger 10 engages, by its grooved tip 10a, the ground yarn a or b coming into action and holds it into proper relation with the continuously fed free yarn c and also in a favourable position to be engaged by the reverse plating instrumentalities when they are operated as described in Specification 366,185. When a push rod 35 furnished with a lug 30 engaging a tail projection 16a on the lever 16 is actuated to render the reverse plating instrumentalities effective or ineffective the finger is also placed in or out of action.
