380,672. Discharge rectifiers. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, 13D, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. Dec. 21, 1931, No. 35294. Convention date, Jan. 3. [Clasa 39 (i).] A gas-filledrectifier has one anode and two or more cathodes which are equidistant from the anode and are completely screened from one another. Incandescent cathodes 4, 5, Fig. 1, are separated by an insulating or a conducting screen 6 within which is mounted a graphite anode 7. The anode may be connected to or insulated from a conducting screen which may be connected to an independent leading-in wire. Ceramic material may be burnt on to the anode leading-in wire. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the screen forms the anode, and the cathode consists of rolled wire gauze which is surrounded by a heating element and coated with an oxide. In a further modification, a glow-discharge rectifier has cold cathodes 15, 16, Fig. 3, of ferrochromium preferably coated with an electron-emitting material. The anode 7 is arranged within a glass screen 6. The filling consists of argon, helium, neon, or krypton to which may be added another gas or mercury vapour. The pressures in the various compartments are equalized by the provision of holes in the partitions.
