379,380. Two-stroke engines; valve gear. JAMESON, J. L., Elland, Heming- ford Road, Cheam, and JEARUM, F. C., Eldoret, London Road, North Cheam, Surrey. June 1, 1931, No. 26052. [Classes 7 (ii), 7 (iii), and 7 (vi).] In a two-stroke engine having an isolated combustion chamber 20, Fig. 5, air, compressed under a piston 12, is admitted by an oscillating plug valve 23 to the combustion chamber 20, where compression-ignition of fuel, injected through an orifice 25, takes place ; the combustion products are admitted by a further plug valve 24 to the working side of the piston 12. Two admission valves 16 and one exhaust valve 19 are operated by face cams 31, 36, Fig. 1, and water is injected through an orifice 26. The valves 23, 24 are oscillated by forks 42, 43 which are pivoted to gimbal rings 40, 41 sliding in slanting peripheral grooves formed in spherical projections of the cam shaft. Reciprocating pumps.-Fuel and water-pump pistons 51, Fig. 4, are reciprocated through connecting-rods and straps 49, 48 from eccentrics 46 on the cam shaft. Regulation is effected by holding open the delivery valves 55 by cams 62, Fig. 1, which are keyed to a shaft 71 but slidable axially to vary the timing.
