[Class 103 (v).] In railway and like draw and buffer gear for centre couplings of the kind in which the coupling allows relative inclination between coupled vehicles but is maintained normally at right-angles to the headstock by the buffing and draw springs and in which the draw-bar passes through sockets secured on each side of the headstock, casings are secured on either side of the headstock while further casings are slidably mounted in the fixed casings with springs interposed to absorb the heavy draw and buffing shocks whilst springs in the slidable casings absorb the lighter shocks and serve to centre the coupler after the vehicle has negotiated a curve. The casings a, b are secured to the headstock x and contain slidable casings j, k with rubber &c. springs c, d interposed. Springs n, o are arranged in the slidable casings j, k and a draw-bar r is arranged as shown passing through a ferrule s permitting angular movement. Initial compression is given to the springs n, o by the draw-bar rand nuts u, v and to the springs c, d by plates l, m. The coupler head p is supported on the springs by lips p<1>, j<1>, k<1> which permit difference of height of coupled vehicles and vertical up-and-down movement during travel.
