Abstract

9755. Robinson, J. G. April 25, 1911. Buffers; collisions, lessening effects of.-Relates to railway-vehicle buffer springs of the kind described in Specifications 9432/02 and 21,641/02, and consists in arranging the auxiliary spring behind the headstock and compressing it by means of a sliding sleeve passing through the headstock. The drawing shows in sectional plan the arrangement combined with a collapsible collision buffer formed of alternate horizontal and vertical corrugated plates as described in Specification 9962/11. The ordinary buffer spring f, consisting of rubber rings and metal separating plates, is compressed by a shoulder s on the buffer rod r against a plate h attached to a cross-beam j, and the reserve spring a, constructed similarly to the spring f, is compressed by the buffer head t through a sleeve d against an abutment c connected by bolts with the headstock.
