423,219. Vehicle-suspension systems. GOTHAER WAGGONFABRIK AKT.-GES., Gotha, Germany. June 13, 1934, No. 17511. Convention date, June 13, 1933. [Class 108 (ii)] In a vehicle-suspension system wherein the wheels are independently mounted upon longitudinally-arranged levers, the upper part of each lever is formed with a pair of jaws, one of which bears against a spring or springs when the lever rocks in one direction and the other against a resilient cushion on the rebound. As shown, one jaw forms a hook n bearing against a rubber block o while the other jaw h carries an abutment i having two bosses p, q adapted to bear respectively on laminated springs k, rigidly secured at their centres to a frame cross-member b. When the vehicle is unloaded the boss p bears on the spring k and when loaded both bosses operate. Coiled springs m may be permanently connected to the ends of the laminated springs, or may be arranged to act only under heavy shocks. Two or more laminated springs may be arranged in series horizontally and may be reinforced by coiled springs permanently, or only during heavy shocks. All the springs are arranged within the space between the top and bottom edges of the longitudinal and transverse members a, b of the frame.
