Abstract
375,890. Drying wood. POUND, F., 3, Brancaster Road, Newbury Park, Essex. April 7, 1931, No. 10280. [Class 34 (ii).] Apparatus for drying wood with hot air, of the type in which the fluid is forced into one end of the log while suction is simultaneously exerted on the other end, comprises two annular supports arranged at each end of the log connected by a number of adjustable tierods. A log 10 is mounted in a fluidtight manner by annular washers 17, 18, between flanged tubular members 13, 14 connected by adjustable tie-rods 19. The tubular members 13, 14 are joined to chambers 11, 12, connected respectively by pipes 20, 23 to a force pump and a vacuum pump. The chambers 11, 12, which may be mounted on movable carriages 26, are also provided with a valve-controlled air outlet pipe 21 and a drain pipe 25. The assembly may be mounted in an outer chamber 27 provided with a detachable cover-plate 28 and supplied by a pipe 29 with a fluid such as air or water under pressure in order to prevent extrusion of the impregnating fluid through cracks in the log. The apparatus may be modified so that a number of logs may be simultaneously treated.
