Abstract

An aluminium-silicon alloy for casting contains about 3-15 per cent of silicon, up to 0,5 per cent of titanium, and the balance aluminium. The alloy may be made by adding titanium in the course of the electrolytic production of aluminium, for example by adding titanium oxide or titaniferous alumina to the fluoride bath, so that the reduced titanium will alloy with the aluminium, silicon being afterwards as such or as an aluminium-silicon alloy. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also similar alloys containing in addition some copper. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
