Abstract
364,334. Vacuum cleaners. KIRBY, J. B., West Richfield, Ohio, U.S.A. Jan. 1, 1931, No. 68. [Classes 8 (i) and 8 (ii).] A chamber 43 is interposed between the casing 25 of the cleaner and its dust-bag 37. It is permanently secured to the bag, and displaceable on its hinges 38 from the casing, so that dust and litter collecting in the bag and chamber may be discharged into a dustpan without removal of the bag. The chamber and casing are drawn into air-tight contact by a wire bail 47 pivoted to a rod which carries rear wheels 49, a finger-actuated clip 50 on the bail engaging a lug on the casing. The fan 31 is driven by worm gearing from the fore wheels 33 ; alternatively, it may be electrically driven. The suction nozzle contains a brush. The air is prevented from returning to the lower part of the casing by a hinged flap 54.
