Abstract

481,902. Silencing vacuum cleaners. HOOVER HOLDING CO., Ltd. (Hoover Co.) Sept. 21, 1936, No. 25617. [Classes 8 (i) and 8 (ii)] In a vacuum cleaner having a carpet nozzle and a motor-driven fan and propelled by a pivoted handle F which carries the upper end of a dust-bag E, the handle is partly constituted by a tubular sound-muffling air inlet into the dust-bag. The muffler may comprise a sponge rubber lining. The muffle section of the handle may be detachable from the upper section and from the fan casing, plug- and-socket electrical connections being then provided. The fan casing may swivel with the handle as described in Specification 412,894. The upper end of the bag may be open, being closed by a clamp E<5> on the suspension. The bag. has a flanged mouth E<1> having a rapidly detachable connection with the flange C<1> of the muffler section ; the lower portion E3 in which the dust collects is secured as by snap fasteners to the lower end of the muffle.
