Abstract

517,894. Vacuum cleaner nozzles. ELECTROLUX, Ltd. Aug. 1'7, 1938, No. 24239. [Class 8(i)] The suction or blast nozzle of a vacuum cleaner comprises a brush rim surrounding the mouth, the rim along one of the longitudinal edges being either permanently less dense than that on the opposite edge, or becoming so on the operative movement of the nozzle. Fig. 2 shows a nozzle in which the front edge is formed with separate brush tufts 17, while the rear and side tufts form a continuous hedge. A rubber buffer 14 surrounds the nozzle, and a plate 24 supports the brush from within, and forms an air guide. The buffer may be held off the brush by a metal sheet. Fig. 8 shows a nozzle in which both front and rear edges are provided with alternate short stiff tufts 33 and longer more flexible tufts 32 which latter move back during operation to provide (greater air inlet space at the front edge and to close or restrict the passages at the rear.
