363,827. Solidifying carbon dioxide. DRY ICE CORPORATION OF AMERICA, 52, Vanderbilt Avenue, New York; U.S.A.- (Assignee of Small, J. D. ; Douglaston, Long Island, New York, U.S.A.) Dec. 19, 1930, No. 38283. Convention date, Dec. 19, 1929. [Class 8 (ii).] Solid carbon dioxide ice is produced by subjecting solid carbon dioxide crystals to centrifugal force while in the presence of its own gas under a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure. A container 1, the periphery of which may be shaped to form moulds, is rotated by a motor 5. The liquid is supplied to a pipe 12 through a valve 11 and exhaust takes place through pipe, 6 controlled by a valve 7. The valve 7 is first adjusted so that the liquid is converted.to dry solid and gas, further adjustment allows the liquid to remain in the liquid form and lubricate the crystals. The pressure in the chamber is then adjusted so that all the liquid is converted into solid or gas. Alternatively the liquid may be allowed to flow into the chamber 1 and then permitted to boil off, or frozen by external means. The liquid may also be pre-cooled and delivered to the pipe 12 in the form of a liquid containing solidified particles.
