Abstract

301,741. Ges. f³r Linde's Eismaschinen Akt.-Ges. Dec. 2, 1927, [Convention date]. Solidifying.-Carbon dioxide &c. is liquefied, cooled almost to its freezing point, and the pressure on it reduced, effecting solidification ; the cooling is effected by allowing a part to evaporate at a pressure above the triple point pressure. The liquefied gas after traversing the interchanger 1 is in part expanded through the valve 4 and allowed to svaporate at say 6 atm. pressure in a cooler 2, cooling the remaining liquid to -50‹ C. After further cooling, and expansion through a valve 5, solidification takes place in a vessel 6, the solid being formed into lumps by impact on a filter, and the gas remaining is returned through an exchanger 3. The pressure in the vessel may be atmospheric or between atmospheric and triple point pressure. A removable cover allows the solid to be removed at intervals, during which the liquid may be expanded into a duplicate vessel.
