Abstract

<PICT:0362671/IV/1> In dyeing and like machines in which fabrics in endless rope form are plaited into a vat or bath for wet treatment by means of an elliptical wince and raised out of the vat by a circular wince, the circular wince 1 and the elliptical wince 4 are intergeared by a chain drive 7 to ensure uniform surface speed of the winces, and the relative positions of the axes of the winces are adjustable to compensate for the elliptical shape of the plaiting wince and its chain wheel, so as to maintain uniform tension in the chain and in the fabric. In the form shown, the axis 5 of the wince is mounted on levers 8 pivoted at 9 and reciprocated by a rod 12 connected to an eccentric 13 on the axis 2 of the wince 1. The rod 12 may also be moved by appropriately designed cam tracks or cams.
