Abstract
361,761. Air heaters for locomotives. HABER, E., 2, Geisbergstrasse, Berlin. March 6, 1931, No. 7090. Convention date, March 10, 1930. [Class 51 (i).] A plate air heater 4 is substituted for the chimney of a locomotive and has vertically arranged plates forming alternate chambers through which the flue gases flow vertically and the air horizontally. The air flows transversely of the locomotive and is supplied by a fan through a conduit 8, the hot air passing to the firebox through a conduit 9. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which the air enters the heater at 11 due to the motion of the locomotive and passes longitudinally through the heater. A fan may be provided in the air outlet conduit 12. The smokebox is flattened at 13 to accommodate the heater.
