Abstract
<PICT:0359634/III/1> <PICT:0359634/III/2> <PICT:0359634/III/3> <PICT:0359634/III/4> <PICT:0359634/III/5> Caramel, marmalade, and like sugar solutions are partly concentrated in a vessel 2 provided with a stirrer 6 and then further concentrated in a vacuum vessel 15 into which the materials are passed by suction through an atomizing nozzle 11, and which is maintained above the boiling point of the liquid. The boiler 2 is heated by steam passed through an external casing 3 from a supply pipe 4 which also supplies steam to a coil 17 in the vessel 15. The stirrer 6 is mounted on a hollow shaft 7 rotated by gearing 8 and containing a rod 13 operating a needle valve 12. The vessel 15 comprises an upper fixed conical part and a removable receiver 16 mounted by wheels 20 on rails. Alternatively the receiver 16 may be mounted to swing outwards. The nozzles 11 may be formed as shown in Figs. 2, 3, 4, and 5.
