Abstract
358,625. Cable joints. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.- (Ohio Brass Co. ; Mansfield, Ohio, U.S.A.) July 26, 1930, No. 22614. [Class 38 (i).] The joints 15, 16 between the cores of multicore cables 11 are enclosed in a block 14 of solid dielectric material, e.g. porcelain, having divergent passages for the cores at each end of the block. Each of the passages may pass through a protuberance on the end of the block and the outer surface of the block may be metallized and connected to the metal covering B of the cores as by spring clips 23. Annular chambers 17 around the joints, with metallized surfaces connected by springs 24 to the joints 15, 16 prevent leakage along the surface of the cable insulation 12. A casing 18 made in two parts bolted together is clamped to the metal sheath of the cables. In a modification, Fig. 4, the block is built up in sections, the divergent passages being formed in a coned end section 31 having a metallized coating 41, and the joint 29, 30 being enclosed in interfitting blocks 33.
