Abstract
1459579 Skin effect heat pipe CHISSO CORP 24 Dec 1974 [28 Dec 1973] 55844/74 Heading H5H In a skin effect heating pipe comprising an insulated wire 2 passing through a ferromagnetic pipe 1, 21, 22, the insulated wire 2 has an external corona shield layer divided into at least two portions 10, 10<SP>1</SP> the adjacent ends of adjacent portions 10, 101 are overlapped with one another at 19, insulation 20 coaxial with the wire 2 is interposed between the overlapping ends, each portion 10, 10<SP>1</SP> is earthed or connected to one point, e.g. 13 of the ferromagnetic pipe 1, 21, 22 and insulation 11<SP>1</SP> is provided on the outer surface of the portions 10, 10<SP>1</SP>. A connector 18 connecting the conductor 17 of insulated wire 2 is surrounded by insulation 9<SP>1</SP>. Tape 23 waterproofs and protects mechanically the overlapped region 19. Jointing box 21, 22 is of ferromagnetic material and forms part of ferromagnetic heat pipe 1. The wire 2 may be connected at one end to the pipe 1 so that the wire and pipe are in series with an A.C. source. Alternatively the wire 2 may form a closed primary circuit connected to the A.C. source and the pipe 1 may form the secondary circuit.
