Abstract
354,399. Regenerative furnaces. KEMP, A. V., Red Cottage, Pinner, Middlesex. Nov. 26, 1930, No. 7069. [Class 51 (i).] In reversible regenerative furnaces having a mixing chamber 6 for the gas and air between the gas and air inlets and the hearth 1, two air inlets 4, 5 are arranged at an angle to discharge air streams from above into the gas stream from the gas inlet 8, a single means being provided for adjusting the area of the ports through which the air enters the mixing-chamber and the mixture enters the furnace. The air and gas uptakes 3, 7 deliver into the mixing-chamber 6 with an adjustable crown 9 shaped at its under surface 10 so as to deflect the mixture downwardly on to the hearth 1. Upon reversal the crown 9 is moved to the position shown in dotted lines to give increased area for the outlet of waste gases. The uptakes and the mixing-chamber with the air and gas ports constitute separate units secured together bv bolts and comprising metal casings filled with silica bricks. The position of the adjustable crown may be varied to suit the gas which is used and may be lowered for forced draught. The adjustable crowns at opposite ends of the furnace may be interconnected so that when one is raised the other is lowered. The arch 11 of the gas port 8 and also the crown may be made hollow and water-cooled.
