Abstract

348,433. Piston rings. SHANNON, W. F., 885, Pearl Street, Beaumont, Texas, U.S.A. June 16, 1930, No. 18422. [Class 122 (i).] In a piston ring of the type comprising outer and inner sections 1, 2, springs 4 pressing the sections apart and with a spring 3 expanding the ring radially, the springs 4 are of inverted V shape, having arms projecting into holes 5 in the section 2 and the bend engaging recesses 6, in the section 1, of varying depth whereby the ring may be adjusted to grooves of different width. The outer face of the section 1 is chamfered at 10, 11 for lubricating purposes, the oil-collecting groove 9 terminating before reaching the ends of the ring.
