Abstract
347,951. Four-stroke engines. ARIEL WORKS, Ltd., SANGSTER, J. Y., and TURNER, E., Dale Road, Selly Oak, Birmingham. Feb. 7, 1930, No. 18956. Divided on 347,768 and addition to 330,231, [Class 7 (ii), Internal-combustion engines, Arrangement &c. of]. [Class 7 (ii).] In an engine having four cylinders arranged in two parallel pairs, the pistons working on parallel crank shafts a, b which are connected together by spur wheels a<3>, b3 mounted inside the crank throws a<4>, a<5>, b<4>, b<5>, the rear shaft b is extended and carries a sprocket wheel f<2> from which the drive is taken to a self-contained clutch and gear-box unit. The engine is mounted with the shafts at right-angles to the centre line of the motor cycle which is driven thereby. Crank chambers.-The connecting wheels a3, b<3> are housed in a divided box c, c<1>, the crank throws and connecting-rods working outside. The upper part c<1> is integral with the upper part of the main crank case, the lower part c being bolted to the upper. Specification 347,952 is referred to.
