Abstract
347,281. Driving dynamos. PITT, W. A., 640, Craig Street, West, Montreal, Canada. Jan. 27, 1930, No. 2745. [Class 35.] Electric train lighting apparatus comprises a generator rigid with the car frame, a transmission gear connected to an axle, a flexible drive between the generator and the transmission gear, and a spring suspension for the drive. The axle 4 is provided with a babbitt sleeve 40 which is cast true to the axis of rotation and carries thereon a split gear wheel 9, Fig. 3, provided with a broad sleeve 93 adapted to be clamped to the sleeve 40. Bearing surfaces 930, 931 are formed on the sleeve for the gear casing 6. The wheel 9 engages a pinion 90 which drives the shaft 50 through bevel gear 92, 52, or the gear 93 may be a bevel wheel engaging directly with a bevel wheel on the shaft 50. Flexible couplings 51 are provided between the generator 5 and the gear. The casing 6 is suspended from a cantilever spring 7 by a shackle 81 and a screw eye-bolt 80 engaging with a sleeve 8 bolted to the flexible end of the spring. The spring is pivoted at 71 within a depending bracket 70 so as to allow horizontal swinging. For greater rigidity the upper and the next to the low leaves of the spring are connected by a link 72.
