Abstract
409,045. Electric tramcars; mounting motors. E.M.B. CO., Ltd., and CADBURY, G. N., Moor Street, West Bromwich. Nov. 5, 1932, No. 31206. [Class 79 (iii).] In an electric tramway or railway vehicle of the kind in which the driven axle d is rotated by suitable gearing, b, c from a motor mounted in close proximity thereto, the axle d is supported directly in bearings near one end of the motor casing a, while the opposite end of the latter is pivoted to the truck frame h through the medium of an horizontal pivot shaft e. The truck frame is supported from the axleboxes l, which float within gaps or recesses i in the truck frame, by swing links k connected to the ends of leaf springs j. Preferably, in order to make provision for a difference in level during running between the two ends of the axle, the casing a is not mounted directly on the shaft e, but is resiliently associated therewith by means of interposed springs n.
