Convention date, Jan. 23, 1929. [Class 72.] A container A for use in case-hardening iron and steel, particularly by nitrogenization, is provided with compartments a<1>, a3, formed with apertures a<2>, a<4> in their bottom and top respectively and shaped as shown in Fig. 1, so that the nitrogenizing gas is distributed uniformly throughout the container. The gas before entering the compartment a<1> by a pipe c<1> is heated by passing through a chamber c<2> provided with heating tubes c<3>. The exhausted gas leaves the compartment a<3> by a pipe D. The chamber c<2> may be dispensed with, or may be replaced by other heating means having a sufficient surface.
