Abstract

Tubes.-A tube d is expanded by rolling to oval shape over a slightly conical mandrel c between skew rolls b the working surfaces a of which are parallel, the tube then being restored to a circular but enlarged size by exterior or interior guides after leaving the rolls. Alternatively the mandrel c, Fig. 5, may be cylindrical and the working surfaces of the rolls may taper towards each other. The guides for restoring the tube from oval to circular form may comprise a mandrel f with a flared tube e, Fig. 7, or equivalent sections thereof or a number of circumferential loose and/or driven rollers g, Fig. 10, with oblique axes to assist the feed. In Fig. 13 the reshaping to circular is done by an extension l<1> of the wall-thinning mandrel co-operating with special additional working surfaces on the main rolls.
