Loose covers.-Removable protective covers for books of the kind comprising a sheet A, Fig. 1, of flexible material, adapted to be folded around the back and covers of the book, and provided at the ends with stiffening-strips B<1>, B<2> for disposal inside the permanent covers, are made of such a size as to allow of the stiffening-strips, or a part thereof, being turned underneath those parts of the removable cover that lie on the inner side of the permanent covers C<1>, C<2>, Fig. 3. In the form of cover shown in Fig. 2, one stiffening- strip B<2> has an extension or flap b<2>, the cover being disposed as shown in Fig. 4, with a flap b<2> passing over the edge of the permanent cover and lying beneath the removable cover A. Alternatively, the flap b<2> may be doubled on itself, so as to lie wholly on the inside of the permanent cover. The removable cover is preferably of transparent paper, and is secured to the stiffening-strips, which may be of stiff paper or card, by means of adhesive, the edges of the cover being serrated or perforated, in order to secure better adhesion.
