Abstract

330,204. Budlong, E. J. Oct. 14, 1929. Pistons; packing.-A combined packing and oil-scraper ring comprises a pair of rings 10, 11 grooved on their opposed faces to form an oilcollecting groove 26 of dovetail cross-section. The rings are slotted to form tapered channels 27 leading from the groove 26 to the back of the ring, the oil being discharged through holes 9 in the bottom of the packing-ring groove. The rings are expanded by a wave spring 30, the edges of which are sinuous, in order to provide clearances for the passage of oil.
