Abstract

311,149. Zulver, C. Aug. 1, 1928. Addition to 311,140. Packing, metallic; removable carriers for. -In packing of the type described in the parent Specification comprising segmental cast - iron rings 4 pressed inwards by split steel rings 5, and having radial grooves 8, the packing-rings are housed in casing- rings of L-section. Preferably each casing- ring comprises two or more rings 9, 10 with flange and groove engagement, and the rings 9, 10 are preferably segmental and arranged to break joint. The grooves 8 in the sides of the packing - rings communicate with the spaces 23 at the back of the packing. Preferably the bore of the packing-rings decreases from the high-pressure end of the stuffing-box. Soft packing 22 may be inserted between the gland and the box, and lubricant may be supplied by a passage 20.
