Abstract

322,550. Hemmingsen, T. V. Sept. 12, 1928. Reversing-gearing for marine plant comprises a driven shaft below a driving-shaft, there being a chain drive for ahead running and either a chain or gear mechanism for astern running, the upper driving-shaft carrying the friction clutches by which the gears are engaged. A driving-shaft 1 carries clutch members 7, 12 adapted to be moved into operation by a spindle 13, whereby a chain sprocket 6 or a gear wheel 11 is coupled to the driving-shaft. The sprocket 16 is connected by chain with a sprocket 8 and the gear wheel 11 gears directly with gear wheel 18 on the driven shaft 3. Instead of the direct gears for reversing, chain gearing may be provided, in which case a third sprocket is used and the chain is driven off the far face of the sprocket on the shaft 1.
