Driving - arrangements for screw propellers. - In marine engine installations wherein the propeller shaft has its axis parallel to the crank shaft axis and is driven ahead or astern through chain and spur gearing and clutches, the clutches are operated by a hand lever and striking gear, and the driving spur wheel on the crank shaft serves also to drive the engine cam shaft. The crank shaft extension c has a spur wheel j and chain wheel n operating with a spur wheel i and chain wheel m freely mounted on the propeller shaft e. The wheel i, m each carry one part of the clutches g, h, other parts being keyed to the shaft. A sliding striker gear o operated by a lever p serves to engage the ahead or reverse clutches, or to be free of both for neutral gear. The pinion also drives the pinion k on the cam shaft d.
