Abstract
163,389. Normanville, E. J. de. Nov. 26, 1919. Variable-speed and reversing gearing.-In variable-speed epicyclic gearing of the type employing interengaging planet-pinions, the driving- shaft 2 has keyed thereon a sun-wheel 5 gearing with primary planet-pinions 6, which gear with secondary planet-pinions 8 gearing with an annulus 9 forming the driven member of the gear. The pinions 6, 8 are carried by a carrier 7 provided with a brake drum 10, which is stationed for low speed. The pinions 8 are secured to pinions 11 gearing with a sun-wheel 12 secured to a brake drum 14, which is stationed for second speed. The drum 14 carries planet-wheels 16 gearing with a sun-wheel 17 keyed to the driving-shaft 2 and with a toothed ring 18 on a. drum 19, which is stationed for third speed. The wheel 17 and drum 19 are connected by a clutch 24 for fourth speed or solid drive. The pinions 6 are secured to pinions 20 gearing with a sun-wheel 21 carrying a brake drum 23, which is stationed to give a reverse drive.
